HOW
At BHealth, I provide personalized consulting services in a way that best fits your needs. Just like a honeycomb, I will help strengthen the foundation of your business by creating scalable efficiencies and interconnectedness. My professional consulting approach will help reframe your client conversations while helping achieve better results. The BHealth service model is carried out from start to finish with the utmost integrity, passion and amiability. This can start as an initial in person meeting, a convenient conference call or series of calls, one on one consultations, video conferences, lunch and learns or speaker series at team events!
I have seen patients in doctor's office and helped providers better prescribe for their diseases while decreasing cost. I have created clinical programs and initiatives for the largest independent chain in Colorado. I have lectured at universities and professional events, taught patients, providers and business on diverse medication topics. I have determined through my diverse experience that conversations on healthcare can often be complex and very formal. That’s why I started BHealth consulting: a modern approach to address complicated healthcare inefficiencies while providing simple solution.
I grew up in Colorado and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacology at the University of California at Santa Barbara. I completed my Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. After graduation, I pursued a postgraduate year one community practice residency at the University of Colorado. I worked as an assistant professor, worked in a primary care clinic, helped patients with transitions of care at a hospital and created clinical programs for retail pharmacies.
After residency, I became the head Clinical Pharmacist at the largest independently owned pharmacy chain in Colorado. I created numerous clinical programs including travel health, naloxone, hormonal contraception, smoking cessation and point of care testing. I was the first pharmacist in the state of Colorado to prescribe a hormonal contraceptive to a patient! I initiated a pharmacist run diabetes clinic at a local primary care clinic where I trained pharmacists to see their own patients. I have created unique programs for pharmacies to increase adherence and decrease DIR fees.
In 2019, I started BHealth Consulting! Through my consultation services, I utilize my knowledge to provide businesses with specialized medication consulting services in an effort to help increase revenue without losing sight of the patient. I LOVE meeting with patients one on one and help them better understand their medications, supplement, vitamins and health goals!
In June 2020, I accepted an Assistant Professor position at a nearby school of pharmacy, while still doing a lot of work at BHealth Consulting! In this role, I taught pharmacy students and take students on rotation with me at the clinic I practice in. I worked in a primary care clinic helping physicians with medication questions, drug selection and helped manage patients’ medications.
I moved back to Colorado in July 2022! I am working as an Assistant Professor, Resident Program Director and my practice site is working with mild traumatic brain injury patients in veterans, first responders and ex-elite athletes (check it out: https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/mibh ) . I also have my Certified Brain Injury Specialist certification (CBIS).
Throughout my career, I’ve been privileged to work across diverse settings, including community pharmacy, ambulatory care, academia, and intensive outpatient clinics providing me a wide range of expertise. Each experience has broadened my perspective and enriched my consulting expertise. One of my specialties is medical cannabis, I educate a wide range of audiences—from students and patients to providers and industry leaders—on the nuances of medical cannabis from a therapeutic standpoint to patient safety and efficacy standpoint.
One unique aspect of my journey is how cannabis legalization has “followed” me from place to place. I began my studies in California, where medical cannabis first took root. Then, while completing my PharmD back in Colorado, recreational use was legalized. Soon after, I moved to the Midwest, where I witnessed medical legalization in Missouri, followed by recreational legalization in Illinois just as I was building my career there. I often joke that if you want cannabis legalized in your state, you might just need to ask me to move there!
When I am not working on my business, I love walking my rescue dog Rosie, traveling, reading a new book, hiking in the Rockies, attending an Orangetheory class, skiing or snowboarding, enjoying a nice glass of wine, or laughing with friends and family.
I can’t wait to meet you!
Kindly,
Kelsey Schwander
